Konftel Ego Points to Importance of Design in Communications Solutions

The Ego portable device that Konftel (News - Alert) unveiled earlier this year is a perfect example of how consumer technology is informing the design of solutions in the business arena. And this trend is good news for any individual or organization that’s working to sell such solutions.

“Design has become more and more important,” says Torbjörn Karlsson, Konftel product manager. “Today, we can admit that when we started Konftel at the end of the 1980s, design was often seen as more of a cost than a product advantage, but today it’s a prioritized investment. The design of a personal product like this one is absolutely crucial. There is also a trend to be more and more mobile, which we’re naturally also addressing with Konftel Ego. It must be easy to pack in your bag or briefcase, next to your computer or iPad.”

This attractive, intuitive, and portable device is ideal for use with Avaya Communicator, Cisco (News - Alert) Jabber, Skype for Business, and other conferencing tools and services. It’s a good alternative to a headset for individual use. And it also can be used to listen to music.

Konftel’s Ego leverages OmniSound audio technology, which employs such techniques as cancellation and noise suppression to allow for high-quality conference calls and other listening experiences. It supports HD calls, and Bluetooth A2DP allows for great sound when playing music, according to Konftel.

Appropriate for use in conference rooms, on the desktop, in hotel rooms, and for home or office use, the Ego can connect via Bluetooth or physical tether to a PC, mobile phone, or tablet. This device features 12-hour battery operation.

The total package includes the conference unit, a quick guide, a software case, and a USB cable. The conference unit, a black triangle with rounded edges, is compact at 14.5 x 13.5 centimeters and features a 1.77-inch color LCD display.

The Ego, which was recently presented with the Red Dot Award 2016, was designed by Struktur Design of Sweden, one of the world’s leading design schools. “We worked according to three guidelines,” says Tord Berggren, who headed the design work at Struktur together with Magnus Melkersson. “Based on the technical specifications, we wished to create a product that would be cool to own, and also simple to use. Despite its small size, it was also to have the Konftel look.”

Speaking of cool solutions available to resellers, you can learn about many of them at the upcoming Reseller Week at ITEXPO. The event is collocated with ITEXPO (News - Alert), which will take place Feb. 8 through 10 at the Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

“In a fast paced industry, keeping up with the latest technologies and trends is vital. Telecom Reseller (News - Alert) Week provides a forum to discuss the latest solutions and topics relevant for today’s resellers while also providing an opportunity to network and develop meaningful partnerships,” said Rich Tehrani (News - Alert), TMC CEO and conference chairman. “We’re confident attendees will leave this conference with the insight they need for a successful 2017 and beyond.”
